Remember * Respect * Revere

Gung Ho Community Service Award

Congratulations to Michael Shain, President and Founder of Thanks To Yanks, for his receiving the Gung Ho Community Service Award, presented by the Marine Corps League on Iwo Jima Day, February 19, 2015.  Michael was honored and humbled to be recognized by this extraordinary group of men who selflessly and courageously gave all during the battle of Iwo Jima which lasted from February 19 to March 26 1945.  This year marked the 70th anniversary of the battle, known as Operation Detachment.  The US toll was heavy; 6,821 were killed or listed as missing in action, another 19,217 were wounded.  Our thoughts and prayers are with those families and their loved ones.  Yes we are the land of the free because of the brave.  Some gave and some gave all.  Let us never forget.

The famous photograph of the US Marine 28th Regiment, 5th Division raising the US Flag on Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945 was taken by AP photograph Joe Rosenthal.  Let this picture be a reminder that we all have an obligation and duty to Respect, Remember and Revere.
